How to Scan a Document with Your Phone

We try to make applying for a mortgage or refinance easy – although it can seem a little heavy on the “paperwork”. Because there are documents we need, we have a few helpful tips for sharing that information that will make the process easier to traverse.

Below are instructions on how to use your iPhone, iPad, or Android device as a scanner for creating images of important documents we need to process your loan! Regular photos you take using your smartphone’s camera are often blurry or the resolution is too low but following the steps below to share images of your personal documents will get you one step closer to the closing table.

How to scan a document on an iPhone or iPad

1. Open the Notes app
2. Open a new note
3. Tap the Camera button, then scan documents
4. Place the document in view of the camera
a. Make sure it is well lit
5. If your device is in Auto mode, your document will automatically scan.
a. If not, you will need to tap the Shutter button or one of the volume buttons and drag the corners to adjust the scan to fit the page
b. Tap Keep Scan
6. Tap Save or add additional Scans

How to Scan a document on an Android

1. Open up the Drive app
2. Navigate to the folder where you would like the scan to be saved
3. Tap the Plus sign button in the bottom right corner
4. Tap Scan
5. Place the document in view of the camera
6. Tap the Shutter button
a. If you have multiple pages, you can hit the plus sign to scan more pages
7. Tap the check mark to save the image(s)
